Mountain Bike Races: Sunday September 8, 2013
The mountain bike races will consist of citizen, sport and expert level races. Beginning in downtown Grand Marais near Artist's Point, riders cross Highway 61 and climb by way of snowmobile and ski trails to the Pincushion Mountain Recreation Area. The race takes full advantage of the unique wilderness terrain and the 1000 vertical feet between Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains. After climbing from Grand Marais, the race enters the Pincushion Mountain Recreation Area and all riders will begin to experience the fun and thrills of single track riding. The new single track is challenging but very rideable for all levels of rider experience. The expert and sport classes will get to appreciate the tight, twisting, rooty & rocky section of the old single track while the citizen riders will take a less technical route. All classes will finish the last mile on the ski trail into the stadium and finish line.
Support Superior Cycling Association
The Superior Cycling Association is the sponsoring race organization and our local bike club, SCA has undertaken a significant program to develop high quality and sustainable single track trails at Pincushion Mt. in Grand Marais and Britton Peak in Tofte. Our new single track trails are a result of many hours of hard work and cooperation and assistance from the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), the US Forest Service, and Cook County. The Superior Cycling Association hopes that you will consider becoming a SCA member or make a donation to our trail building fund. We are a small club but we are dedicated to building high quality single track mountain bike trails in Cook County utilizing some of our exceptional terrain to create a premier mountain bike experience, Please join us.
